The fauna represents the rest of an abundant fauna that once covered the entire grasslands of Ankole and the park is the last area in western Uganda where the common zebra, horse antelope or roan antelope, impala and eland can be found.
The mammals of the Park are characteristic of the wide belt of high, but moderately dry and stony meadows that extend from northern Tanzania through eastern Ankole to southwest Toro and include topi, oribi, jump rocks, African wild boar or warthog, reedbuck, leopard, spotted hyena, buffalo, sitatunga, and hippopotamus. Many birds are attracted to lakes, and the Nose Trogon is found in wooded valleys.
