Mbale

Mbale:

Mbale is a city in the Eastern region of Uganda. It is the main commercial, administrative, municipal center of Mbale District and the surrounding sub-region.

Mbale is also an agricultural trade center and the site of one of Uganda’s major dairies. This town is the terminus for an improved road providing a scenic route around the north of Mount Elgon to Kitale, Kenya.

Mbale has more than 5 top-rated hotels and more than 10 mid-range ones with the possibility of more springs when city status is granted. Many arcades and shopping malls are now a common thing in Mbale. However, this may not be important prerequisites for such a city status but unfortunately, the only city that has these types of features.

Overall, a promising and shining Mbale city may put pressure on the capital city to style up to international standards.

Initially, Mbale was linked with Wales which is the town of Pontypridd thorough regional and local twinning ceremonies in 2005. This link was intended to associate organizations and professionals in Pontypridd with their counterparts in Africa, under the auspices of the charity which is known as the Partnerships Overseas Networking Trust.

As per the 2002 national census, the population of Mbale was about 71,130. In 2010, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) estimated the population at 81,900. In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population at 91,800. In the year 2014, the national population census estimated at 96,189.

In the year 2019, the Cabinet of Uganda has resolved to award Mbale city status effective July 2021. In the same year, in November, Cabinet revised the date of city status to 1st July 2020.
